Ponant and Farwind Energy explore technologies for hydrogen ship refueling
Ponant has established a partnership with the Nantes-based firm Farwind Energy to explore cutting-edge technologies for ship refueling with renewable hydrogen.
The two businesses have established a roadmap for the development of sustainable maritime hydrogen generation and usage. Under this roadmap, they will work together to generate first-use cases, overcome potential technological challenges, and share advances made in managing hydrogen on board.
By 2030, the two partners hope to simultaneously commission Farwind’s first energy ship and Ponant’s Swap2Zero project.
ACC advocacy at clean hydrogen production tax credit public hearing
The American Chemistry Council (ACC), in a recent IRS and Department of Treasury public hearing, made its stances known on the Section 45V Credit, a key tax break for clean hydrogen production outlined in the Inflation Reduction Act.
The ACC’s chief representative was Charles Franklin, Senior Director for Energy, Climate & Environment. He articulated shared key interests among the organization’s diverse members in pushing for robust national policy to incentivize clean hydrogen.
The chemical industry, an already major hydrogen producer, seeks to play a bigger role in the wider application and production of low-emission hydrogen. As a sector, it possesses the necessary expertise and existing sales channels necessary to scale a low-emissions hydrogen economy rapidly.
EDP selects startups for Energy Starter
Nine businesses with green hydrogen and renewable energy concepts have been selected by EDP to participate in its open innovation initiative, Energy Starter, which aims to speed up the global energy transformation.
EDP reports that the chosen startups will move on to the program’s boot camp, which is scheduled for April 16–18 in Singapore. This will be EDP’s first open innovation event in the APAC area.

Iberdrola obtains certificate from AENOR
Iberdrola has obtained a certificate from AENOR that certifies its environmental management system for managing hydrogen generation from renewable sources at its Barcelona plant, in compliance with the international standard UNE-EN ISO 14001.
This is the first commercial plant in Spain for producing and distributing renewable hydrogen, which is utilized by other fleets and enterprises in the Free Zone industrial area in addition to the buses operated by Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona (TMB).
Kochi’s water metro to use hydrogen-powered vessel
With Kochi’s water metro proposing to use hydrogen fuel cell technology, India’s first water metro takes a step toward sustainability. It has also been stated that a green hydrogen-powered vessel will be added soon.
After the Cochin Shipyard Limited began building the first boat, “Muziris,” the first of 23 battery-powered electric boats, in December 2021, Kochi became the first city in India to have a water metro system. The operation of Kochi Water metro transportation, which connects the city with over 75 E-boats, is based on sustainability.
