Oasis Marine has unveiled solutions for offshore hydrogen bunkering and electric charging through specialized mooring buoys. This technology, trialed at the Kelvin Hydronamic Lab in Glasgow, demonstrates the feasibility of connecting vessels to offshore wind farms for on-the-go refueling.

The primary goal of Oasis Marine’s offshore hydrogen bunkering system is to facilitate the transition towards greener maritime transportation. By harnessing green hydrogen as a fuel source, the company aims to reduce carbon emissions from vessels, addressing a significant contributor to global CO2 emissions. Moreover, the system holds promise for storing excess power generated by offshore wind farms and enabling its export to European markets, thus maximizing the utilization of renewable energy resources.

At the heart of Oasis Marine’s innovative solution are specialized mooring buoys equipped with the capability to transfer green hydrogen produced by offshore wind farms. These hydrogen buoys serve as vital components of an offshore hydrogen highway, enabling efficient and sustainable fueling for vessels operating in remote offshore locations. Additionally, the company’s Power Buoy systems facilitate electric charging for maritime vehicles, further enhancing the eco-friendly infrastructure.

The introduction of offshore hydrogen bunkering and electric charging solutions has the potential to revolutionize the maritime industry’s approach to decarbonization. By offering a viable alternative to conventional fossil fuels, green hydrogen can significantly reduce emissions from maritime transportation, contributing to global efforts to combat climate change. Moreover, the development of an offshore hydrogen highway opens up new avenues for the utilization of renewable energy resources and fosters international cooperation in sustainable energy initiatives.

Oasis Marine’s Hydrogen Buoy and Power Buoy systems have received support from the Scottish Government, underscoring the commitment to fostering innovation and sustainability in the maritime sector. This funding will accelerate the development and deployment of green hydrogen infrastructure, bolstering Scotland’s position as a leader in renewable energy technology.
