Sydrogen Energy, a Singapore-based fuel cell components and systems company, has entred into the maritime market with a 250 kW fuel cell power module.

This move, developed through an exclusive collaboration with Shanghai Hydrogen Propulsion Technology (SHPT), aims to support Singapore’s ambitious maritime decarbonization goals.

The maritime industry is under increasing pressure to reduce its carbon footprint. The International Maritime Organization (IMO) has been calling for accelerated transitions to cleaner energy sources. As a leading maritime hub, Singapore has set ambitious targets: achieving net-zero emissions by 2050 and ensuring all new harbor craft operating in its ports from 2030 are fully electric, capable of using B100 biofuel, or compatible with net-zero fuels. Meeting these goals will require significant investment in infrastructure and innovative solutions.

The introduction of the 250 kW hydrogen fuel cell power module by Sydrogen is a step towards addressing these challenges. This advanced system, scalable from kW to MW, is designed for both large and small vessels and is capable of accepting reformed fuels. The module will convert hydrogen from various sources to produce clean electricity without carbon emissions.

Technological Innovations

At the core of Sydrogen’s new fuel cell module is its proprietary metal bipolar plate technology, SydroDIAMOND. This technology offers durable, high-performing components for the fuel cell stack, expected to significantly enhance the longevity and efficiency of maritime fuel cell systems. The system, scheduled for market readiness in 2025, will undergo rigorous type approval certification with Classification Societies to ensure compliance with maritime standards.

Sydrogen is actively collaborating with local shipbuilders in Singapore to deploy this technology, contributing to the nation’s green shipping initiatives. Additionally, the system will be globally marketed by Sydrogen to support the needs of vessel builders in Asia and beyond.

By introducing this new product, Sydrogen is expanding its offerings in the fuel cell space from a pure component supplier to a provider of complete products ready for use in the maritime industry.
