Verso Energy, a French energy company, is planning to establish a plant in Oulu, Finland, to produce hydrogen and synthetic fuels.
The plant will take advantage of the area’s low-cost renewable energy and ample biogenic carbon dioxide, benefiting the aviation and shipping sectors.
Antoine Huard, the CEO of Verso Energy, highlights the benefits of the Oulu region, noting its abundance of affordable renewable energy sources. The area’s low electricity costs, the lowest in the EU for non-household customers, are advantageous for the project. Moreover, the University of Oulu’s extensive research into hydrogen ensures an available pool of skilled talent.
The Port of Oulu offers excellent transport connectivity through road, rail, and sea, being part of the EU’s TEN-T transport network. Current projects, like Gasgrid Finland’s hydrogen transport infrastructure, further enhance the region’s appeal for industrial development.
