A delegation from Japan recently visited Catalonia to explore potential partnerships in the green hydrogen sector.
A team of thirty Japanese companies and organizations visited Catalonia to learn about its green hydrogen ecosystem. They attended a working session at Catalonia Trade & Investment’s headquarters, where Jaume Baró, the agency’s CEO, discussed Catalonia’s strategies for promoting a renewable hydrogen economy. He emphasized that industrial decarbonization is a key priority for Catalonia, which has implemented pioneering policies in this area.
According to Baró, Catalonia has the ideal conditions for developing hydrogen as an energy source. With a strong industrial base, a significant chemical sector, and advanced infrastructure, Catalonia is well-suited for this initiative. The region is committed to a climate-neutral energy model by 2050, with green hydrogen playing a crucial role in achieving this goal.
The meeting included prominent Japanese companies such as AGC Chemicals, Mitsubishi Corporation, and Sumitomo Corporation. Also in attendance were officials like Akiko Shikata, Consul General of Japan in Barcelona, and Tomohiro Takashima from the Japan External Trade Organization. Catalonian representatives included Joaquim Daura from the Energy Efficiency Cluster of Catalonia.
The Japanese delegation plans to visit Tarragona, exploring its industrial assets. The tour includes the Port of Tarragona and the Southern Industrial Park, with meetings scheduled with local leaders and businesses.
