Honeywell and AM Green Partner to Assess Potential of SAF and Green Fuels Production

Honeywell has joined forces with AM Green as they ink a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to explore the feasibility of producing sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), green methanol, and green hydrogen.

As aviation seeks sustainable solutions, the global SAF market is projected to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of over 60% through 2030, according to insights from industry reports. This collaboration aims to leverage Honeywell’s technological expertise and AM Green’s commitment to sustainability to assess the viability of green fuels.

The burgeoning interest in SAF and other green fuels arises from the aviation industry’s aim to reduce carbon emissions, a sector responsible for approximately 2.5% of global CO2 emissions. Notably, the transition towards SAF is supported by data suggesting that the adaptation of SAF could lower lifecycle emissions by up to 80% compared to conventional jet fuel. However, the question of scalability remains a challenge. Collaborative efforts like these are critical in navigating economic and technical barriers, including feedstock availability and the integration of renewable energy in the production process.

This initiative reflects a burgeoning trend among industry leaders to embrace sustainability and diversify energy sources. If collaborations like the one between Honeywell and AM Green prove successful, it could set a precedent for other players in the sector, potentially accelerating the adoption of green fuels in the global energy mix. While the path is fraught with obstacles, the commitment to sustainability and technological innovation offers a promising horizon for the future of aviation and energy sectors.
