Airbus, a European airplane maker, may seek to begin producing engines.
According to the advance notice, Airbus chief Guillaume Faury of the “Welt am Sonntag” claimed it is possible to equip the planned Airbus hydrogen-powered aircraft with self-produced electric motors. “It’s something we could effectively do ourselves,” the Frenchman remarked, referring to a prospective “strategic shift.”
By 2035, Airbus hopes to have a hydrogen-powered passenger airplane on the market, paving the road to carbon-free flight. Green hydrogen infrastructure, according to Faury, is critical to the viability of hydrogen aircraft. “We require a significant amount of CO2-free power,” remarked the Airbus CEO. “In the industry, there will be a rivalry for CO2-free energy.”
