According to a statement from the company, the energy company Aker Clean Hydrogen will partner with the island municipality of Aukra, which is located just west of Molde, to investigate the feasibility of establishing a hydrogen production plant.

The Aukra Hydrogen Hub project focuses on gaining access to natural gas from Aukra’s local gas treatment facility, which will be split into CO2 and hydrogen by the hydrogen plant.

CO2 will be permanently stored, and pure blue hydrogen will be used to decarbonize local production processes, provide emission-free fuel for sea and land transportation, and be exported to European hydrogen users.

As a next move, Aker Clean Hydrogen will perform a feasibility study in collaboration with the Aukra municipality on the possible construction of a hydrogen center. After constructing large portions of the original gas treatment facility, Aker is well placed to supply Aukra Hydrogen Hub.

The sister company Aker Carbon Capture, in collaboration with the research institute SINTEF, will investigate new capture technology as part of the production.
