In an effort to aid in the decarbonization of mobility in Europe, Alstom and Air Products have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to deploy hydrogen-powered trains in the Czech Republic.
The two businesses will make it easier for Alstom’s Coradia iLint trains to operate on Czech rails under the terms of the MoU, with Air Products providing the necessary refueling infrastructure.
During its Railshow in May 2022, Alstom demonstrated the hydrogen fuel cell-powered train in the Czech Republic and Slovakia. Air Products also took part by refueling the Coradia iLint with hydrogen from a mobile refueling station.
The new cooperation is expected to boost Europe’s Fit for 55 goals, which call for a 55% reduction in net greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 2030.
The iLint has been tested and purchased in France, Italy, the Netherlands, Austria, Sweden, and Poland since its 2018 launch. Most recently, it traveled 1,175 kilometers (730 miles) across Germany without stopping for fuel.
