AM Green and DP World Unite on Green Hydrogen Supply Chain

AM Green is joining forces with logistics giant DP World to establish a zero-carbon supply chain.

This collaboration aims to set up advanced logistics and storage infrastructure in India and overseas to boost the global export of green hydrogen derivatives, specifically green ammonia and green methanol. These products are essential for reducing carbon emissions worldwide.

The partnership seeks to facilitate the export of 1 million tonnes each of green ammonia and green methanol on a global scale. The plan includes developing port infrastructure within AM Green’s net-zero industrial clusters to support international exports. Additionally, bunkering infrastructure is to be established in Dubai, UAE, India, and Southeast Asia to distribute green ammonia and methanol from AM Green’s plants.

AM Green, founded by Anil Chalamalasetty and Mahesh Kolli, aims to achieve a production capacity of 5 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) of green ammonia by 2030. This production goal is equivalent to producing 1 MTPA of green hydrogen. The company is utilizing renewable energy sources such as solar, wind, and hydroelectric power to manufacture sustainable aviation fuel, green ammonia, green hydrogen, chemicals, and biofuels across various projects in India.

Kakinada Project

In August of last year, AM Green made a final investment decision for a 1 MTPA green ammonia plant in Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh. This investment totals around ₹12,500 crore and involves a green hydrogen production unit to be converted into green ammonia. The project will take place at an existing urea plant acquired by AM Green in early 2024. Production is expected to begin in the second half of 2026, primarily targeting European markets.

AM Green has secured offtake agreements with major industry players including Uniper, Yara, and Keppel to supply green hydrogen applications. In October of last year, BASF, a German chemical leader, signed an agreement with AM Green to explore opportunities in low-carbon chemicals. BASF plans to purchase 100,000 tonnes of green ammonia annually from AM Green.

This partnership with DP World supports India’s ambition to become a global hub for green hydrogen exports.
