The Commercial Vehicle Demonstrations Project was introduced in Edmonton under the direction of the Alberta Motor Transport Association (AMTA).
Through the project, commercial carriers will have the chance to test and use Class 8 hydrogen-fueled vehicles in their day-to-day operations.
These tests will gather and analyze information over the course of the two-year project regarding the performance of hydrogen-fueled vehicles on Albertan roads, payloads, and weather conditions. According to the association, it will also address issues with fuel cell reliability, infrastructure, and car cost and maintenance.
For this demonstration project, the hydrogen trucking providers are Hydra Energy, Hyzon, and Nikola. At the launch event, VEXSL, the first commercial fleet user of Hydra in Alberta, displayed the first armored hydrogen vehicle in the world.
