Atlas Copco has invested in technology to assist the emerging green hydrogen sector on its path to mainstream adoption.

Atlas Copco’s line of hydrogen oil-free boosters, hydraulic oil-free boosters, and piston boosters is compact and simple to install. Atlas Copco hydrogen compression technology is modular in design to ensure user reliability and maximum uptime. It is fully tested and functional to support the truck and ground transport, trains and rail transport, airports, and aviation sectors in their mission to supply cleaner fuel for a sustainable future, as well as the power-to-gas market.

Atlas Copco, a market leader in air and gas compression systems, recently completed a project to supply a plug-and-play, three-stage oil-free hydraulic booster to boost stored hydrogen gas pressure to 450bar as part of a compression system for storing and filling high-pressure, green hydrogen for aircraft fuel cells.

The oil-free booster is driven hydraulically and operates on a straightforward hydrostatic transmission basis. Units can be used as compressor/boosters to fill and then draw gas from a high-pressure storage to achieve a high flow rate during direct fill.

Packaged systems can be supplied complete with a closed loop cooling system and controller, all enclosed in a weatherproof container.

Additionally, Atlas Copco technology contributes significantly to the decarbonisation and energy transition efforts through hydrogen generation, transportation, and use.
