The International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), and the Small Island Developing States Sustainable Energy and Climate Resilience Organisation (SIDS DOCK), have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to reinforce joint actions that accelerate the deployment of renewable energy and energy efficiency solutions, to build energy security and support climate resilience in small island developing states (SIDS). Iberdrola has started installing wind turbines on the Herrera wind farm, with 63 MW capacity, in Castilla y León. The turbines have a unit power of 4.5 MW, which is seven times more than the first wind turbines installed in the country more than two decades ago. The Hererra complex, with 63 MW of installed capacity, is made up of three wind farms – La Huesa, Valdesantos and Orbaneja- and a total of fourteen SG 4.5-145 wind turbines with 70-metre blades offering a diameter of 145 meters. Michelin Scotland Innovation Parc has welcomed its first tenant, MEP Technologies. MSIP, a joint venture between Michelin, Dundee City Council and Scottish Enterprise, is a world-class Innovation Parc in Dundee for sustainable mobility and low carbon energy. MEP Technologies designs and manufactures high technology battery systems for portable industrial storage and automotive electric vehicle systems. It has relocated from its existing Dundee premises to accommodate the growth of its business. RES is selling two wind farm projects located in the Vienne region of France to funds managed by Octopus. The first project is the Cerisou wind farm, located in the municipality of Savigné, that will comprise 8 wind turbines with the capacity to generate 24MW. The second one is the Berceronne wind farm, located in the municipality of Jazeneuil, that will comprise 3 wind turbines with a 9 MW capacity. Iberdrola has wrapped up installation of 7,800 photovoltaic modules in the solar power facility it has under construction at the Castellon Combined Cycle Plant. This is an innovative project for Spain that will see €2.3 million invested in generating 3.5 megawatts (MW) of renewable power. The company will prevent 3,000 tones of CO2 from being released annually once the facility is up and running, which is expected to happen by the end of this year, generating 5,500 megawatt hours per year (MWh/year) of clean energy. Iberdrola plans to build its first major solar power project in Spain’s Valencia region, the Cofrentes photovoltaic farm, which entails an investment of over €100 million. This facility, located in the municipal areas of Ayora and Zarra, will have an installed capacity of 200 megawatts (MW) and will help to stimulate local industry by involving up to 600 professionals in its construction. Centrica Business Solutions, part of Centrica, has invested in the development of a 4.99MW fuel cell facility in South Windsor, Connecticut. This fuel cell facility will deliver power to the local utility, Eversource Energy, under a 20-year purchase power agreement (PPA). Fuel cells generate electricity through a chemical reaction process that is clean, quiet and highly efficient with little to no harmful emissions. This project will provide enough clean energy to power over 4,200 homes per year. Centrica acquired the project in March 2019.
