The International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), and the Small Island Developing States Sustainable Energy and Climate Resilience Organisation (SIDS DOCK), have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to reinforce joint actions that accelerate the deployment of renewable energy and energy efficiency solutions, to build energy security and support climate resilience in small island developing states (SIDS). Iberdrola has started installing wind turbines on the Herrera wind farm, with 63 MW capacity, in Castilla y León. The turbines have a unit power of 4.5 MW, which is seven times more than the first wind turbines installed in the country more than two decades ago. The Hererra complex, with 63 MW of installed capacity, is made up of three wind farms – La Huesa, Valdesantos and Orbaneja- and a total of fourteen SG 4.5-145 wind turbines with 70-metre blades offering a diameter of 145 meters. Iberdrola has wrapped up installation of 7,800 photovoltaic modules in the solar power facility it has under construction at the Castellon Combined Cycle Plant. This is an innovative project for Spain that will see €2.3 million invested in generating 3.5 megawatts (MW) of renewable power. Centrica Business Solutions, part of Centrica, has invested in the development of a 4.99MW fuel cell facility in South Windsor, Connecticut. This fuel cell facility will deliver power to the local utility, Eversource Energy, under a 20-year purchase power agreement (PPA). Fuel cells generate electricity through a chemical reaction process that is clean, quiet and highly efficient with little to no harmful emissions.
