Nordex Group recently installed the first N149/5.X turbine on the Genshagener Heide wind farm near Potsdam, Germany.  The Nordex Group launched the market segment for 5 MW turbines with this type of turbine in the spring of 2019. This month, the first N149/5.X will commence operations on time. Following the installation of the turbine, the training for the N149/5.X form certification measurement and validation program begins. As part of the standard validation and certification process for its turbines in the Delta4000 series, the Nordex Group replaced the gearboxes first mounted in two N149/4.0-4.5 turbines in Wennerstorf, Lower Saxony, Germany. The turbines installed at this site in 2018 are the world’s first Delta4000 turbines of this model. The turbines have been in service since August and November 2018 respectively and are subject to a thorough evaluation of their condition within the first 15 and 24 months of operation. Cloudberry Clean Energy has received 100 percent approval for its bid to the shareholders of Scanvind2, the holding company of the Rewind Vänern offshore wind project. The transaction represents an additional step towards the goal of Cloudberry to become a major offshore wind developer in the Nordic countries. The 16-turbine/100 MW project is located in shallow water on the largest lake in Sweden, near the Karlstad office of Cloudberry, and will dramatically enhance access to clean and renewable energy in the area once fully built. Iberdrola has been awarded a grid link in the Algarve, Portugal for a hybrid photovoltaic project, with an installed capacity of 83 megawatts (MW) and a storage capacity of 14 MW, which will stabilize the system and control the discharge to the grid at times of high demand. With this latest award, Iberdrola will have a total of 1,519 MW of renewable energy capacity in Portugal: 1,158 MW of hydroelectric power, 255 MW of photovoltaic energy, 14 MW of battery storage and 92 MW of installed wind energy in operation. Duke Energy and third-party solar developers as well as industry organizations are collaborating to create a pathway for more solar energy in the Carolinas.  Duke Energy and most of the major solar developers in North Carolina and South Carolina have agreed on a specified process and timetable that will link a significant additional amount of solar generation to the Duke Energy distribution system. “These agreements continue to advance renewable energy in the Carolinas. GE Renewable Energy has been selected by PÜSPÖK Group as the supplier for two wind farms located in the Burgenland region in Austria. The 157 MW project, which will use 30 GE Cypress onshore wind turbines, represents significant progress for GE in the region. The arrangement, which includes a multi-year service contract, would allow GE to set up a service organization in the country next year. MHI Vestas has concluded a purchasing agreement with Fassmer Atech Composites Taiwan (FACT) for the local supply of spinner covers and nacelle covers. Spinner covers and nacelle covers are made of composite glass fiber material and shield wind turbine systems from the outer sea environment, which are especially useful for sometimes harsh conditions off the coast of Taiwan. These components will be used for MHI Vestas’ Changfang Phase 2, Xidao and Zhong Neng ventures, adding more credibility to the most ambitious localization plan currently being implemented by MHI Vestas in Taiwan. Equinor has entered into an agreement with BP to sell 50 percent of non-operated interests in Empire Wind and Beacon Wind properties on the US East Coast for a total price prior to adjustment of $1.1 billion. The two companies are also forming a strategic alliance for further offshore wind development in the US through this deal. Currently, Equinor has a 100 percent stake in both the Empire Wind lease, located off the coast of New York State, and the Beacon Wind lease, located off the coast of Massachusetts.
