San Joaquin County has partnered with Ameresco to build, own and run a ground-mount solar photovoltaic system at the Foothill Landfill in Linden, California. Funded by a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA), Ameresco installed 13,770 solar modules rated at 385W-DC each and 29 solar inverters rated at 125kW-AC each. Under a different deal with San Joaquin County, Ameresco installed 4.3 MW of landfill gas at the same landfill site in 2014. “San Joaquin County, and it’s local communities, have long prioritized the development of renewable energy resources, both for reducing emissions and supplementing existing electricity generation. In addition to its environmental…

GE Renewable Energy has been chosen by European Energy as the provider of three wind farms in Lithuania, situated approximately 80 kilometers north of the capital city of Vilnius. The 121 MW project, which will use 22 GE Cypress onshore wind turbines, will add 23 percent of the country’s green power generation capacity. The arrangement also involves a 25-year full-service term. European Energy will run the 5.5 MW Cypress turbines with a rotor diameter of 158 meters and the blades supplied by LM Wind Power, a GE Renewable Energy company. All turbines will be installed on a 151 meter platform. The construction…
Iberdrola and Bayer in Spain have signed the first long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) between an electricity utility and a pharmaceutical company in Spain that generates clean energy sources. Iberdrola will supply 100 percent renewable electricity to cover the entire supply of electricity at nine Bayer sites in Spain, including three factories, five research and development (R&D) centers and the company’s headquarters in Iberia. This initiative will be effective in 100 percent of these centers from 2022 and over a ten-year period, with the electricity generated by the Francisco Pizarro photovoltaic plant – the largest planned photovoltaic plant in Europe -…
The Red Sea Development Company (TRSDC) has awarded its highest-value contract to date to a consortium led by ACWA Power to design, construct, operate and transfer the utilities infrastructure of the Red Sea Project. The contract marks a major step forward for the Red Sea Project, establishing it as the first tourism destination in the area to be operated solely by renewable energy. A project of this magnitude has never been done anywhere in the world on this scale. “This is a pivotal moment for us as we seek to build a new kind of tourism destination. We’ve always been…
Altus Power has completed the acquisition of a 2.5 megawatt solar project in Charlotte, Vermont. The acquired project produces approximately 3 million kilowatt hours of electricity per year. This project sells electricity to VEPP, a not-for-profit Vermont company that operates two of Vermont’s renewable energy projects under a contract with the Vermont Public Utility Commission. “We are pleased to add this operating asset to our growing national portfolio of distributed generation solar assets. Altus Power’s reputation for providing sellers with competitive prices and transaction certainty has significantly increased our transaction pipeline.”Gregg Felton, managing partner of Altus Power. CorPower Ocean has been awarded a 10-year TUPEM license by the national Directorate-general for Natural Resources (DGRM). The license provides a permit for the private use of the maritime space up to 12 miles off the coast of Aguçadoura in northern Portugal. The permit unlocks the demonstration phase of the company’s flagship HiWave-5 project, paving the way for a new high-efficiency WEC product class. “CorPower has reached a series of milestones throughout 2020 and the TUPEM license is another significant step forward. This permit allows to kickstart the final phases of our demonstration work in the Atlantic Ocean, which will test…
AGL is developing a grid-scale battery in South Australia, as part of plans to roll-out 850 megawatts (MW) of energy storage capacity across the National Energy Market (NEM) by FY24. Constructed in phases, the battery system will be located at the Torrens Island Power Station with a capacity of up to 250MW and a duration of up to four hours. “With more renewable generation than any other state, South Australia has been a leading contributor to Australia’s low-emissions future. Wind generation is a major source of energy in South Australia and to ensure its reliability AGL is committed to delivering…
Hydrogen Renewables Australia (HRA) has agreed to partner with Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) on its 5000 MW Murchison renewable hydrogen project located near Kalbarri in the Midwest of Western Australia. The Murchison Renewable Hydrogen Project is a large-scale (up to 5000 MW) export-oriented green hydrogen project located at the 126,000-hectare Murchison House Station and will be powered by combined wind and solar power generation and desalinated water. The project aims to export large-scale hydrogen to Asian markets – especially Japan and Korea. “Our partnership with CIP will enable the Murchison Renewable Hydrogen Project to proceed with its planned development to…
According to data collected by the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA), project developers expect more than 23 GW of wind turbine generation capacity to come online in the United States in 2020 significantly more than the previous record of 13.2 GW installed in 2012. Just 5.0 GW of power came online in the first eight months of this year according to the EIA Preliminary Monthly Electric Generator Inventory, but as is usual for wind turbine installations, most of the annual capacity additions come online in the final months of the year. Another 18.5 GW plan to be launched in September…
