RES’ asset management portfolio continues to expand, after signing a new deal with Red Rock Power to bring on board the Afton wind farm in East Ayrshire. This brings the total capacity of its asset management services in the UK and Ireland to 1.3GW. Located just south of New Cumnock, the 50MW, 25-turbine wind farm provides 35,000 homes with renewable energy, generating 3.5 million MWh over its lifetime. As well as site management, via its 24/7/365 Control Centre in Glasgow, RES will provide custom grid services for the wind farm, collaborating with National Grid to monitor real-time output from the…
One of the targets that countries around the world have set for 2050 is to decarbonize the planet. To do this, one of the keys is to decarbonize the production of an element such as hydrogen, resulting in green hydrogen, as this is actually responsible for more than 2 percent of total global CO2 emissions. The latest forecasts released at the end of 2019 by the International Energy Agency (IEA) forecast that global energy demand would rise by between 25 percent and 30 percent by 2040, which would mean more CO2 in an economy dependent on coal and oil, exacerbating…
Siemens Gamesa leads the way to the cleaner future and is now powered by energy from 100 percent renewable sources worldwide. With an annual energy consumption of more than 180,000 MWh, the organization avoids emitting more than 80,000 tonnes of CO2 annually with this achievement, doubling the previous year’s savings. The supply of energy in locations with heavy industrial footprints, such as Spain, Denmark, Germany and the United Kingdom, has been leading the way in recent years and has gone green. From 62 percent in fiscal year 2019 to 100 percent in the recently closed fiscal year 2020, the renewable…

Vestas and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) have signed an agreement that will see Vestas acquire MHI’s shares in the MHI Vestas Offshore Wind (MVOW) joint venture. MHI on the other hand will acquire 2.5 percent in Vestas and be nominated to a seat in Vestas’ Board of Directors. Vestas will acquire MHI’s 50 percent interest in the MVOW joint venture against the 5,049,337 shares in Vestas to be issued at the close of the deal, representing 2.5 percent of the nominal share capital of Vestas following the capital increase. The transaction is priced at approximately €709 million, on the basis…
Saitec Offshore Technologies and RWE Renewables have chosen Ferrovial for the manufacture and assembly of the SATH floating platform in the DemoSATH project. The construction package will last for 14 months and includes site planning, concrete precasting, steel bulkhead procurement and floater assembly, along with supply chain management. “This is Ferrovial’s first floating offshore wind project and it represents a great opportunity to add value to the project, based on our experience in marine construction and landmark pre-stressed concrete structures. Moreover, this project has a large innovation component, not only because of the materials but also because of the manufacturing and…
Vestas has received a 50 MW order with the local developer, Ia Bang Wind Power Joint Stock Company, owned by Gia Lai Electricity Joint Stock Company (GEC), a renewable energy producer based in Vietnam. This is the second Vestas project with GEC and will push its cumulative order intake in Vietnam past 1.1 GW. The contract involves the supply and supervision of the installation of 12 V150-4.2 MW wind turbines supplied with different power ratings in order to maximize the generation of energy for the unique wind conditions of the site. The la Bang 1 wind project will be located in…
According to Wood Mackenzie’s latest quarterly market forecast, as global solar PV markets continue to face the challenges raised by the coronavirus pandemic, solar PV installations are projected to exceed 115 GWdc this year. This is up 5 percent from the total installed globally in 2019. “The most severe of lockdowns have ended in almost all countries, with construction on PV sites able to continue as planned, albeit with many projects facing delays caused by disruption earlier in 2020. Year-over-year growth in installations will continue each year to 2025, topping out at 145 GWdc. The one exception will be 2024…
Canadian Solar has launched its Series 7 high-power, high-efficiency modules with power output of up to 665 W. The new generation modules are intended to offer one of the most attractive levelized energy costs (LCOE) in the industry as it further reduces the balance of system (BOS) and other solar power plant costs. In order to enable smooth installation of solar plants, the latest monofacial HiKu7 and bifacial BiHiKu7 modules are optimized with leading tracker and inverter designs. This implies more modules per string, more watts per tracker and pile, lower costs of equipment and labor, and greater returns from…
