EDP Renováveis (EDPR) has reached an agreement with Ellaktor, the largest infrastructure company in Greece, to jointly grow the country’s onshore wind potential, putting together and integrating industrial expertise and capacity for growth. The agreement envisages the joint development of a 900 MW wind portfolio, currently at various stages of development, in a country with attractive renewable prospects. Through this alliance, on top of the 152 MW already contracted in recent wind auctions to start operations in 2021 and 2022, EDPR gains access to quality assets under construction and gains more growth exposure in the Greek market.

Wärtsilä has been chosen by P&O Ferries (P&OF), the British ferry operator, to power their new ‘super ferries’ series. The contract relates to two vessels and the order was signed in Q1 2020. The Wärtsilä 31 engine will power the vessels. The high level of fuel efficiency of the engine also decreases exhaust emissions. The Port of Kapellskär, along with the Port of Naantali, has received EU funding to minimize, among other things, air pollutant emissions from shipping. The funding also increases the investments made by the Stockholm Ports to meet customer service requirements and potential needs. The EU agreed to finance eight Swedish infrastructure projects with grants from the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) Fund this summer. Two of the projects are the Stockholm Ports initiatives to support a stronger Stockholm area. Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP), 162.2 MW onshore wind farm, Bearkat II, successfully launched commercial operations and obtained tax equity financing in October 2020. Bearkat II is located in Glasscock County, Texas, and has been co-developed by Dallas-based developer Tri Global Energy. The project uses 47 V126-3.45 MW Vestas turbines that generate wind power to support the ERCOT power sector. Generated power is sold under a long-term offtake arrangement with a major U.S. financial institution, which limits the project’s exposure to underlying power prices. Iberdrola and Volvo Car España have signed a framework partnership agreement to encourage sustainable mobility, in which the energy group will supply charging solutions for the Recharge vehicle range of the car manufacturer in Spain. The solution that Iberdrola and its subsidiary Wallbox will supply to Volvo is intended to make the charging of its customers’ vehicles simpler, as it requires both the supply of the charging point and its installation in a private or shared garage. Van Oord has become a shareholder in Saare Wind Energy. Saare Wind Energy is building an offshore wind farm in Saaremaa, Estonia. The partnership with Van Oord enables Saare Wind Energy to step up the planning process for this offshore wind farm, as financial support and expertise are combined. Saare Wind Energy is developing an area of up to 200 square kilometers southwest of the Estonian island of Saarema. The region could allow an offshore wind farm of more than 1,000 MW. The project, named Horse Heaven, is a merger of two wind energy projects in Benton County, Washington State, Northwest USA, originally designed separately by wpd and Scout Clean Energy.
