Iberdrola and Danone have joined forces in their sustainability commitments with the signing of a long-term Power Purchase Agreement (PPA), which will drive the development of Europe’s biggest photovoltaic plant. The agreement reached will guarantee the long-term green supply of electricity to all Danone’s Spanish production plants and its natural water sources, located in Asturias, Barcelona, Gerona, Guadalajara, Granada, Madrid and Valencia; as well as its logistics centres and offices. Danone España’s suppliers, Graham Packaging and Salvesen Logística, have also joined the alliance. The terms of the agreement reached between the two companies establish that Iberdrola will provide green energy…
Green Hydrogen Systems (GHS) has been selected as electrolysis technology partner in a demonstration project run by Ørsted, and supported by the Energy Technology Development and Demonstration Programme (EUDP) under the Danish Energy Agency. The aim of the project, known as H2RES, is to produce renewable hydrogen fuel for heavy-duty road transport. A 2 MW electrolysis plant will be built around GHS’s modular electrolysers powered by two 3.6 MW offshore wind turbines located at the Avedøre Power Station. The plant is expected to start production in late 2021, and to produce around 1000 kg of green hydrogen per day, which…
Vattenfall and Preem collaboration aimed at producing fossil-free hydrogen for biofuel production, has entered the next phase. A study is now being conducted to examine opportunities for building a large-scale production facility at the refinery in Lysekil in Sweden. Preem’s target of producing 5 million cubic metres of biofuel by 2030 may result in a reduction of transport emissions of up to 12.5 million tonnes of carbon dioxide, equivalent to about 20 per cent of Sweden’s total emissions. This shift in production will require a sizable supply of hydrogen. Vattenfall and Preem have decided to look into the possibility of…
The appointment of Miguel Stilwell de Andrade as Chairman of the Board and CEO of EDPR was approved by the EDP Renewables (EDPR) Board of Directors. Rui Teixeira, who has been EDPR’s interim CEO since last July, has been appointed as CFO of the company. Following these appointments, EDPR consolidates a leading management team with excellent expertise in the green energy industry and the requisite capabilities to address a crucial moment in the energy transformation of which, through its dedication to the production of renewable energies, EDPR has shown a deep commitment. Miguel Stilwell and Rui Teixeira will collaborate with…
Portugal is expected, as a signatory to the Paris Agreement, to commit to the total bloc-wide goals of lowering GHG emissions by 40 percent below 2005 levels and rising the share of renewable energy to 32 percent of gross final consumption. The country is expected to install 9.2 GW of new power capacity between 2021 and 2030, in accordance with these goals. According to GlobalData, a leading data and analytics firm, over 80 percent of this capacity is set to come from new solar photovoltaic (PV) installations allocated via the auction process. The National Energy and Climate Plan of Portugal, released…
MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company has joined the Hydrogen Council as a steering member to foster cross-sector collaboration that will accelerate R&D related to clean hydrogen derived fuels and solutions. MSC work with others to advance the exploration viability of hydrogen and fuels derived from it as potentially viable fuel sources for container shipping. “MSC is actively engaging with a wide range of stakeholders to accelerate the development of clean hydrogen fuels for shipping. The future of shipping and decarbonization will rely on strong partnerships from both the perspective of technology collaboration and procurement. There must be a massive injection of…
The three largest Polish energy companies have signed a letter of intent on cooperation in future offshore wind farm projects. The companies recognize the value of the offshore wind energy sector for the development of the Polish economy and increasing the level of Poland’s energy security. “The construction of offshore wind farms in the Baltic Sea is a project of great importance for the Polish economy. It is not only a step towards the transformation of our energy sector towards a low-carbon economy, but above all benefits related to stimulating development, increasing innovation, and using the potential of Polish companies.…
Adani Solar Energy Kutchh One, a step-down subsidiary of Adani Green Energy Limited (AGEL) has commissioned a 150 MWac solar power project 3 months ahead of scheduled date. This plant has a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Limited (GUVNL) for a term of 25 years at Rs. 2.67/kWh ($0.037/kWh). The gross operating renewable capacity of AGEL has risen to 3,125 MW with this commissioning. The Energy Network Operation Center (ENOC) will be linked to the facility, which constantly tracks and analyzes the output of 80+ solar and wind plants throughout different locations in India. AGEL has a gross…
Ørsted has decided to invest in the Danish demonstration project H2RES at Avedøre Holme in Copenhagen, Denmark. H2RES will use offshore wind energy to produce renewable hydrogen. The project is expected to produce its first hydrogen in late 2021 and will be Ørsted’s first renewable hydrogen project in operation. H2RES will be Ørsted’s first renewable hydrogen project in operation and marks a new era in Ørsted’s green journey, where the power of offshore wind will be harnessed to decarbonize society beyond direct electrification, offering a path towards zero emissions for otherwise hard to abate sectors. H2RES will have a capacity…
NextPower III ESG (NPIII ESG), the third institutional solar fund of NextEnergy Resources, has acquired its second solar PV in Portugal and its first one in Chile. The capacity of the NPIII ESG in operation and under construction, across 15 projects/portfolios, is currently 430MWp in carefully selected geographies. NPIII ESG successfully secured nine transactions during the COVID 19 pandemic, demonstrating its investment manager’s ability to finalize investments under challenging circumstances. NPIII ESG has six additional exclusive projects with a total capacity of approximately 500MWp and a further pipeline of approximately 2GWp. The Portugal acquisition consists of a 11.6MW capacity project.…
