OuYang Offshore has awarded AqualisBraemar the construction supervision contract for two newbuild self-elevating wind turbine installation vessels to be constructed at Chinese shipyard Dayang Offshore Equipment. AqualisBraemar’s on-site team at Jiangsu-based Dayang Offshore Equipment will monitor and supervise the construction of the two wind turbine installation vessels – OuYang 003 and OuYang 004 – to ensure that all work is carried out under the contract specifications plus flag and class requirements. One of the world’s largest offshore construction vessels has arrived at the site of the EDF Renewables and ESB owned Neart na Gaoithe (NnG) offshore wind farm, 15km off the Fife coast, as the project enters its first phase of offshore construction. The S7000, Saipem’s semi-submersible crane vessel, will start the installation of casings for piles. The vessel will also work on preparing the seabed before the steel foundation jackets on which the 54 wind turbine generators and two offshore substations will be installed. Showing the slow and stepwise growth that characterises the German wind market as it recovers from a historic low in 2019 due to a lack of permits, Vestas has received its second and final order for the 34 MW Dreieck Spreeau wind project, in Brandenburg, eastern Germany. Xodus Group has launched a collaborative three-year research project on the costs of floating offshore wind. The research is a joint collaboration between the Universities of Edinburgh, Strathclyde and Exeter as well as the Scottish Association for Marine Science (SAMS), led by Xodus through the IDCORE project. Saturn Power and UPower have started construction a 7.5MW portfolio of seven distribution-connected ground mount solar projects to support the territories of five electricity cooperatives in central and western Texas. Saturn Power and UPower support these cooperatives in delivering emission-free renewable energy to people in their respective communities while also generating significant cost savings by reducing their transmission providers’ demand charges and capacity-generation fees. Orbital Marine Power, Thompsons of Prudhoe and Port of Blyth, have decommissioned their prototype 2MW SR2000 floating tidal turbine. Heavy lift specialists Mammoet managed the tandem lift of the 516-tonne structure out of the water and onto the Blyth quayside in what was the port’s largest heavy lift to date.
