Ørsted, DEME Offshore and Siemens Gamesa have successfully completed the installation of 94 turbines at Ørsted’s Borssele 1 & 2 offshore wind farm in the Netherlands. The first turbine was installed in April 2020 and the turbine installation process was completed less than five months later. The sister installation vessels Sea Installer and Sea Challenger of DEME Offshore have been mobilized for the installation. Eos Energy Storage (Eos), a manufacturer of safe, low-cost and long-lasting zinc hybrid cathode (Znyth) battery energy storage systems, has entered into an agreement to supply 500 MWh of integrated AC battery energy storage (BESS) to Carson Hybrid Energy Storage (CHES). SSE has agreed to sell its non-operating stake of 25.1 percent in Walney offshore wind farm to Greencoat UK Wind (UKW), subject to a completion process that it expects to take place soon. The stake is equal to a power of 92MW, and a gross valuation of £350 million. The selling of Walney marks the first step of SSE’s disposal plans. Mainstream Renewable Power has reached financial close for the second phase of its fully-owned and fully-contracted 1.3 gigawatt Andes Renovables wind and solar power generation platform in Chile. The Company has successfully raised $620 million in debt to fund construction of phase two of what is one of Latin American’s biggest wind and solar generation platforms. The price of green hydrogen will be significantly higher if it is used extensively in the transport and heating sectors, an analysis by the Aurora Energy Research think tank says. The demand for hydrogen power in Germany could reach anywhere between 150 to 500 terawatt-hours (TWh) by 2050, depending on what extent the transport and heating sectors are electrified, the group said in a statement. The high-demand scenario would correspond to about half the current demand for natural gas in Germany, it added. DOE is awarding a total of $21 million to 18 projects for technologies that remove carbon dioxide (CO2) from the atmosphere, a process known as “direct air capture.” Through DOE’s Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage R&D Program, the Office of Fossil Energy has a comprehensive portfolio of technological solutions that help keep CO2 emissions out of the atmosphere.
