RJ McLeod will lead the construction of the country’s newest onshore wind farm following the award of a multi-million-pound contract by Vattenfall. At South Kyle wind farm in East Ayrshire and Dumfries and Galloway, RJ McLeod will supply roads and access routes, electrical infrastructure, turbine foundations, and other facilities. Located 5 kilometers to the east of Dalmellington, South Kyle will be Vattenfall’s largest onshore wind farm in the United Kingdom. Cubico Sustainable Investments (Cubico) has acquired an onshore wind development business in France from InControl and Biorganotec. The development portfolio, which comprises around 200 MW and more than 10 projects, is spread across France. The current onshore wind team from the companies will be incorporated into Cubico to allow seamless portfolio growth. The Southwest Power Pool (SPP), the regional transmission organization that operates the electric grid for most of the central United States, has set records for the highest proportion of electricity demand supplied by wind power in both a single-hour period (72%) and a full day (62%). In 2019, wind power supplied 29 percent of SPP’s demand for electricity. The share of total demand for wind power in 2019 ranged from a high of 37 percent in October to a low of 18 percent in August on a monthly basis. Watson Farley & Williams (WFW) has advised Helios Energy Investments (Helios) on the purchase and associated financing of large-scale photovoltaic projects in Bonete, Albacete, Spain from Cobra (ACS Group). The deal was made through the purchase of the respective project companies and represents the entry of Helios into the Spanish renewables market. Energy Vendée, a French wpd project company, has reported that ENERCON will supply the turbines for the Auzay onshore wind project. The Auzay project is located in the municipality of Auchay sur Vendée, Département Vendée, in the Pays de la Loire region of north-west France. Nine Enercon E-138 EP3-type wind turbines (WTG) with a total capacity of nearly 36 MW are to be installed here. OWC has hired Jeff Fodiak to head up the company’s US office and separately strengthened its operations in both UK and Germany with new hires. Fodiak has worked as a renewable energy electrical engineering consultant since 2008, specializing in the electrical design, grid connection and general engineering of offshore wind farms. GE Renewable Energy has reported that its prototype Haliade-X 12 MW has obtained a provisional form certificate from DNV-GL. This certification demonstrates GE’s Haliade-X prototype has high safety and quality standards, and provides evidence that its design is on-track to meet the full type certification requirements. GE Renewable Energy has revealed its intention to hire 250 workers by the first quarter of 2021 at its LM Wind Power wind turbine blade manufacturing site in Cherbourg, France. Every new employee will be trained in the production of wind turbine blades through the ‘Center of Excellence’ training program of LM Wind Power–a six-week theoretical and practical training course that will build the skills and technical experience needed to manufacture high-quality wind turbine blades.
