AGL has installed the final turbine at Coopers Gap, completing the construction of Australia’s largest wind farm. AGL head of construction Brian McEvoy said that the final blade at the 123rd wind turbine was hoisted by crane and mounted by the rigging team to the turbine hub. “This is a significant milestone for everyone involved in the Coopers Gap Wind Farm project including the owner, the Powering Australian Renewables Fund.”It continues a process that began in early 2018 and which included transporting more than 1,200 components more than 300 kilometers from the Port of Brisbane over a mountain range to the…
DeepWind members Total and Floating Power Plant are working together to decarbonize oil and gas production with floating wind and hydrogen. Oil and gas production from the underground requires a lot of energy, so the offshore oil and gas industry is now focused on reducing its energy usage and CO2 footprint. Total is supporting a consortium of research institutions and firms to explore the potential for using renewable energy sources to improve Danish oil and gas production footprint. The O/G Decarb innovation project will explore the possibility of using a combined wind and wave technology on a floating foundation to…
Government help for Germany’s green start-ups is vital to overcome the economic crisis while also fighting climate change, a new survey of the lively sector showed. Current policies do not do enough to honor the ‘double dividend’ these young companies provide by boosting the economy while also increasing sustainability, the authors say. Securing financing is still a major hurdle because of the country’s risk-averse large investors. “Policy is missing out on the growth potential of green start-ups.” Klaus Fichter, study author and head of the Borderstep research institute. The German government must provide urgent support to the country’s green start-ups…
ScottishPower Renewables and Macquarie’s Green Investment Group (GIG) have installed every single turbine on the offshore wind farm East Anglia ONE. Beginning in June 2019, a total of 102 Siemens GamesaSWT-7.0-154 offshore wind turbines were installed at the wind farm site, 43 km off the coast of Suffolk. Siemens Gamesa completed the installation using the vessels Sea Installer and Sea Challenger, owned by DEME. All turbine components were pre-assembled and loaded out of Peel Ports Great Yarmouth, following the £5 million co-investment in the port by ScottishPower Renewables to prepare it for construction and marshaling. “Successful installation of all the…
Jan De Nul Group and Huisman have joined forces for the heavy-lift equipment on board of Jan De Nul’s Next Generation offshore installation vessels Les Alizés and Voltaire. Upon the order of both vessels in 2019, Jan De Nul Group awarded the contract for the engineering, construction, and delivery of two highly innovative cranes to Huisman. For these cranes, which will be the largest in their class, Huisman developed the Universal Quick Connector (UQC) based on the expertise of Jan De Nul Group’s operational and engineering team. The result is a groundbreaking innovation, resulting in a major step-change in safer…

ABB is supporting the transition from fossil fuels to renewables in Europe by providing smart power systems to one of the largest new solar power plants in Spain. ABB is providing low-voltage solutions to handle the renewable energy generated by new, large-scale solar farms under construction by Solarcentury in Extremadura and Andalusia, Spain. ABB technology will monitor and control the energy flow at the sites from more than a million solar panels. With a combined solar capacity of 500 MW, the plants would be able to produce enough energy to power 250,000 homes, lowering CO2 emissions by around 285.000 tons annually.…
Wärtsilä is finalizing a 70MW energy storage and energy management system project in the California Independent System Operator (CAISO) energy market. Together with the Wärtsilä GEMS network, the energy storage system would optimize system efficiencies and add renewable power to the grid at times when it would not be available otherwise. Wärtsilä booked the order in late 2019, and the project will be finalized by mid-2020. The advanced software platform of Wärtsilä GEMS can automate the installation and functionality of the existing renewable energy network of the customer and link the site to the local energy market. By maximizing battery capacity…
