Jan De Nul Group and Huisman have joined forces for the heavy-lift equipment on board of Jan De Nul’s Next Generation offshore installation vessels Les Alizés and Voltaire. Upon the order of both vessels in 2019, Jan De Nul Group awarded the contract for the engineering, construction, and delivery of two highly innovative cranes to Huisman. For these cranes, which will be the largest in their class, Huisman developed the Universal Quick Connector (UQC) based on the expertise of Jan De Nul Group’s operational and engineering team. The result is a groundbreaking innovation, resulting in a major step-change in safer…

ABB is supporting the transition from fossil fuels to renewables in Europe by providing smart power systems to one of the largest new solar power plants in Spain. ABB is providing low-voltage solutions to handle the renewable energy generated by new, large-scale solar farms under construction by Solarcentury in Extremadura and Andalusia, Spain. ABB technology will monitor and control the energy flow at the sites from more than a million solar panels. With a combined solar capacity of 500 MW, the plants would be able to produce enough energy to power 250,000 homes, lowering CO2 emissions by around 285.000 tons annually.…
Wärtsilä is finalizing a 70MW energy storage and energy management system project in the California Independent System Operator (CAISO) energy market. Together with the Wärtsilä GEMS network, the energy storage system would optimize system efficiencies and add renewable power to the grid at times when it would not be available otherwise. Wärtsilä booked the order in late 2019, and the project will be finalized by mid-2020. The advanced software platform of Wärtsilä GEMS can automate the installation and functionality of the existing renewable energy network of the customer and link the site to the local energy market. By maximizing battery capacity…
U.S. wind industry has experienced a strong start to the year, with the first three months of 2020 seeing record construction and power purchasing activity, despite uncertainty surrounding COVID-19. The US wind industry installed over 1,800 megawatts (MW) of new wind power capacity in the first quarter, while the volume of projects under construction set a new record, according to the newly released ‘Wind Powers America First Quarter Report 2020’. The American Wind Energy Association’s (AWEA) report reveals that U.S. project developers installed more than double the amount of wind capacity in the first three months of 2020 than in the first quarter…
Global pandemic of COVID-19 has made an impact on supply chains in the wind sector like many other manufacturing or service enterprises and will continue to do so in the months ahead. Some project milestones will be deferred, with impacts being felt throughout the whole value chain, whilst at the operational level; turbines, blades, component and material orders will be cancelled or unfulfilled, the latest report from the Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC) stated. There will be staff lay-offs and facility closures and back office functions will be reduced to skeleton levels with home working becoming prominent. The supply chains…
Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has signed a 25-year power purchase agreement for the 5th phase of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum solar park with a capacity of 900 MW. Photovoltaic solar panels will be used in this phase and commissioned in stages beginning in the third quarter of 2021. This supports DEWA’s efforts to achieve the 2050 Dubai clean energy strategy to generate 75 percent of Dubai’s total renewable energy production by 2050. It will have a capacity of 5,000 MW by 2030 using the independent power producer (IPP) model, with investments of up to AED 50…
MHI Vestas has confirmed a purchase agreement with Swancor to source several key blade manufacturing components locally. The scope of the Swancor contract extends considerably beyond local blade material requirements and covers a large percentage of the total blade manufacturing material value (including pultruded carbon plates, resin, and bonding glue). “The addition of Swancor to our local suppliers is a significant boost to our ambitions in Taiwan. The local supply chain is currently under development in Taiwan, and we are pleased to support an established group such as Swancor broaden their presence in the offshore wind sector. We look forward to…
