Innogy has sold its installation vessel ‘Seabreeze II’ and related equipment to Hong Kong based SPIC Ronghe International Financial Leasing. Divestment fits Innogy’s strategic decision to exit the offshore service vessel market. The agreement was signed in February. “A decade ago Innogy took the decision to eliminate an important bottleneck in the construction of offshore wind farms via the ownership and operation of its own installation vessels. However, since that time, such bottlenecks have eased through the availability of a range of state of the art installation vessels that are available worldwide in Innogy’s current and future core markets. As…

First Solar has signed two 15-year power purchase agreements to sell with Community Choice Aggregators (CCAs), Monterey Bay Community Power (MBCP), and Silicon Valley Clean Energy (SVCE). Under the agreement, the agencies will buy electricity from the Rabbitbrush solar project developed by First Solar in Kern County, California. The 100-megawatt AC photovoltaic solar plant, scheduled to be completed in the second quarter of 2022, will also have 20MW of battery storage capacity, capable of delivering electricity for 2.5 hours. “We are delighted to partner with First Solar to add to our growing solar generation and battery storage portfolio. Responsibly developed to minimize its impact…
Eco Wave Power has entered an official concession agreement with APDL regarding the usage of an area suitable for the construction, operation, and maintenance of a wave energy power plant in Portugal. The agreement will see APDL provide EWP with the concession for its breakwaters for a period of 25 to 30 years. Eco Wave will be responsible for securing all the necessary licenses, constructing and commissioning the power plant, and selling the generated electricity. The plan is to construct and commission the power plant in two stages. In the first stage, Eco Wave will build an up to 5…
Daimler Truck and the Volvo Group, have signed a non-binding agreement establishing a new joint venture. The intention is to develop, produce, and commercialize fuel cell systems for heavy-duty vehicle applications and other use cases. The Volvo Group will acquire 50% in the joint venture for approximately €600 million on a cash and debt-free basis. “Transport and logistics keep the world moving, and the need for transport will continue to grow. Truly CO2-neutral transport can be accomplished through electric drive trains with energy coming either from batteries or by converting hydrogen on board into electricity. For trucks to cope with…
The global energy system is undergoing rapid transformation. With the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals and the Paris Climate Agreement serving as inspiration, countries, cities, and corporations all over the world continue to take meaningful action on renewable energy development. While a pressing need to increase momentum exists, 2019 has been a year of bold ambition and remarkable achievements. The Global Renewables Outlook shows the path to create a sustainable future energy system. This report highlights climate-safe investment options until 2050, the policy framework needed for the transition and the challenges faced by different regions. Raising regional and country-level ambitions will…
Jan De Nul and LS Cable & System have been contracted by TenneT to supply and install high voltage cables for the grid connection of the Dutch offshore wind farms Hollandse Kust Noord and West Alpha. The cables will be designed and manufactured by LS Cable & System, while Jan De Nul will take care of transportation, laying, and protection. Offshore execution will take place in 2022-23. The Hollandse Kust Noord and Hollandse Kust West Alpha export cable systems will consist of two 220kV AC cable systems each. A total length of 210 kilometers will be covered by the cable system, connecting the…
IRENA’s first Global Renewables Outlook finds that there is an opportunity to meet climate goals while boosting economic growth by advancing the renewables-based energy transformation. The decarbonization of the energy system can support short-term economic recovery and increase global GDP in the long term. While a move to deeper decarbonization would require total investments of up to $130 trillion, the gains would be enormous, according to the Outlook. The transformation of the energy industry could increase global GDP by $98 trillion between now and 2050. Renewable energy jobs would nearly quadruple to 42 million, increase employment in energy efficiency to…
GlobalData analysis have shown that the recent manufacturing disruption in China is going to have an impact on the UK solar sector, with the market expected to stall and even modestly decline by the end of 2020. Lack of support, restrictions implemented due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and lack of domestic manufacturers make the UK highly dependent on imports to cater to demand. “Quarantine measures are likely to see development timelines being pushed back by at least a quarter, impacting the deployment of solar projects. Before the COVID-19 outbreak, the solar industry was coping with policy changes, which impeded its…
With a swept area of 20.000 square-meters, the V162-5.6 MW has the largest rotor size in the Vestas portofolio. The V162-5.6 MW onshore turbine, which was first put to use on the Riskebo wind energy project in February this year, is suitable for low to medium wind speeds and has extensive applicability in high average wind speeds. It has a standard sound power level of 104dB(A) and over 25 percent higher energy production than the V150-4.2 MW. EDP Renováveis (EDPR) has secured a power purchase agreement with Ammper Energía (AMMPER) to sell the produced energy from the Los Cuervos solar PV project. The Los Cuervos solar project, located in Mexico, is expected to start operations in the beginning of 2021. EDPR has now contracted about 80 percent of the approximately 7.0 GW targeted global capacity build-out for the 2019 to 2022 period. “We are very pleased with the progress of our PPA strategy with landmarks such as the one we are announcing today. We have reached 80% of the ambitious goal of incorporating 7 GW into global capacity,…
