Hydrogen production is expected to begin this year at the Baku Oil Refinery named after Heydar Aliyev, according to Emil Alkhasli, Deputy Managing Director of the Heydar Aliyev Oil Refinery Revamp Project, who spoke at the 27th Energy Forum in Baku.

Modernization and reconstruction work at the Baku Oil Refinery is underway, according to him, in order to increase production capacity, ensure the supply of Euro-5 standard fuel in Azerbaijan, minimize environmental impact, ensure uninterrupted supplies of raw materials to the country’s Azerikimya production association, and increase petroleum product export potential.

“To date, 1,200 professionals who operate around the clock at the refinery have been involved in the repair operation. The process of putting various pieces of equipment into service is being carried out step by step “Alkhasli explained.

He went on to say that modernizing the refinery will assure production efficiency and sustainability, as well as energy security.
