Ballard Power Systems has just received a significant order for 200 fuel cell engines from New Flyer, an NFI Group Inc. subsidiary.
This move strengthens an existing partnership, with Ballard providing approximately 20 MW of power for New Flyer’s next generation of zero-emission Xcelsior CHARGE FC hydrogen buses, set for deployment in 2025. The buses will serve various U.S. states, including California, Arizona, and New York, further expanding hydrogen’s role in sustainable transit.
What’s interesting is that this order doubles the volume from New Flyer’s previous purchase of 100 engines under the companies’ long-term agreement established in early 2024.
Both companies appear committed to shaping a greener public transit landscape, with a shared focus on the benefits of hydrogen fuel cells—ranging from long range and fast refueling to consistent performance in all weather.
