The Bundesanstalt für Materialforschung und -prüfung (BAM) will conduct a study into the safe operation of hydrogen and hydrogen-natural gas pipelines.
Prior to establishing a matching test infrastructure, it is directed at industry and academic specialists in order to evaluate existing and future issues, requirements, and priorities.
The Federal Ministry of Economics and Climate Action (BMWK) commissioned BAM to establish a test platform for hydrogen and hydrogen-natural gas pipelines. The facility aims to give industry, science, and gas grid operators with the ability to resolve technical challenges rapidly and in a practical manner, therefore greatly accelerating the hydrogen market’s growth in Germany.
The test platform will be comprised of many modules and will offer a unique range of testing options across Europe. The emphasis will be placed on testing that must be conducted on a real-world scale as well as under crucial operational conditions (with regard to pressure, temperature, mechanical and thermal loads, e.g. during repair welding). The survey, which aims to identify existing research requirements in more detail in advance, will be conducted through July 31, 2022.
