BEH2YDRO will release its 100 percent hydrogen engines for heavy-duty applications.

These new, zero-emission engines are ready for use and will enable the sector to engage in further 100 percent sustainable and environmentally friendly development. ABC and CMB.TECH are partners in BEH2YDRO.

After the successful launch of dual-fuel engines in September 2020, BEH2YDRO is currently launching hydrogen-only engines.

“We can speak of a real milestone here with the BEH2YDRO combustion engines on 100% hydrogen ! Zero emissions together with high efficiency and simplicity of concept for numerous applications.” – Tim Berckmoes, CEO of ABC Engines.”

Dual-fuel engines

Operating on 85 percent hydrogen gas and 15 percent conventional fuel, they make the owner or user less reliant on fossil fuels and reduce CO2 emissions by as much as 85 percent! They can also be utilized flexibly when hydrogen is (temporarily) unavailable.

100% hydrogen-powered engines

In recent years, however, BEH2YDRO has not rested on its laurels and has been diligently developing an entirely new line of 100 percent hydrogen engines.

The innovative BEH2YDRO hydrogen engines produce 100 percent clean energy. They emit no carbon (CO2), nitrogen (NOx), sulphur oxides (SOx), or soot particles. Additionally, they are non-toxic and:

  • No use is made of scarce raw materials such as lithium, zinc, cobalt, platinum, rare earths, etc.;
  • Avoid environmental damage caused by the mining of restricted resources;
  • They pose no threat to human health;
  • The byproducts are absolutely safe (the emissions consist of water vapor and air sucked in).

Due to an optimum air/gas mixture that lowers component heating, they also have a long service life.

“With the launch of this monofuel hydrogen engine we are taking an important next step in the development of our BEH2YDRO engines. BEH2YDRO can now supply both dual fuel and mono-fuel hydrogen applications for a wide range of heavy industrial applications such as shipping, gensets, locomotives, etc. Thanks to BEH2YDRO we can already green a large part of the off-grid industry today.” – Alexander Saverys, CEO CMB.TECH.

Utilization and effectiveness

The unique 1 MW to 2.6 MW family of 100 percent hydrogen engines was designed for heavy-duty applications. These hydrogen engines are offered as 6- and 8-cylinder inline engines and 12- and 16-cylinder V engines. As a primary drive or in conjunction with an alternator, they are a dependable and 100 percent ecologically benign source of energy for ships, drilling rigs, and other marine applications. They are also ideal for operating locomotives.

Additionally, the BEH2YDRO hydrogen engines are particularly adaptable because they are unaffected by minute contaminants in the hydrogen. For instance, they can be used to recover hydrogen instead of flaring it. The 100% hydrogen engines of BEH2YDRO are designed with proven technology to ensure long-term and efficient operation. In addition to their extended service life, they are also incredibly simple to maintain. This saves owners and operators money and time.
