American component manufacturer BorgWarner has launched the first mass-production hydrogen injection system capable of bringing the benefits of zero CO2 emissions, high efficiency, capacity maintenance (unaffected by batteries), and rapid refueling to the vehicles to which it will be applied – at the moment, construction vehicles.
“This company milestone reinforces our long-standing relationship with our customer,” said Davide Girelli, vice president and general manager of BorgWarner Fuel Injection Systems. “We are pleased to provide them with a complete hydrogen injection system, which includes fuel injectors, rails, an electronic control unit, and system integration.”
BorgWarner, as a hydrogen technology solution provider, works with OEMs across all vehicle segments, from passenger cars to light and heavy commercial vehicles for on- and off-road use, and can supply individual components or turnkey solutions that integrate the entire fuel injection system, including controllers, software, and calibration.
Hydrogen technology is a cost-effective alternative that requires just minor modifications to conventional internal combustion engines. Due to hydrogen’s lower density than gasoline and diesel, the engine’s fuel injection system will require a redesign to accommodate the fueling and storage requirements.
BorgWarner is continually developing hydrogen components for low, medium, and high pressure settings, including fuel port and direct injection solutions, based on years of experience in injection systems.
