After receiving £2.5 million in financing from the West of England Authority, a green hydrogen plant near Bristol is expected to start operating in spring.
Green hydrogen will be produced, stored, and studied at the Institute of Advanced Automotive Propulsion Systems (IAAPS) in Emersons Green’s Bristol and Bath Science Park.
According to metro mayor Dan Norris, it will be the first of its kind in the area and will bring an estimated £5 million to the West Country when businesses relocate there to conduct research at the facility.
In order to lower the carbon footprint of the building while doing research on how to use green hydrogen in industries that are difficult to electrify, like aviation, shipping, and heavy-duty transportation, the energy generated at the plant will be used on the IAAPS site.
The statement was made only a few days after a new organization joined a group of significant businesses in the South West that are constructing significant hydrogen infrastructure throughout the region. Wessex Water joined the Hydrogen South West (HSW) collaboration, which includes companies from the aerospace, maritime, high-tech engineering, and public utilities, as its eleventh member.
