With Toyota fuel cell technology, the first hydrogen bus built by CaetanoBus has been added to the fleet of the Transportes Metropolitanos de Barcelona (TMB).
For regular lines of Barcelona’s public transportation, it is expected to begin operating in 2022 if all necessary paperwork is completed.
Within TMB’s decarbonization plan, CaetanoBus will supply eight hydrogen buses.
H2 City Gold HD is a 12-meter-long bus with three doors, a maximum capacity of 87 passengers and a 180 kW permanent magnet synchronous motor from Siemens. It will be used for service in Barcelona (241 hp). It uses Toyota’s fuel cell technology, which in this case provides 60 kW of power and is powered by hydrogen stored in five tanks, totaling 37.5 kilograms of capacity.
With tanks of up to 37.5 kilos, the MB’s new emission-free bus can travel 400 kilometers on one tank of hydrogen, which takes less than nine minutes to refuel. MB’s new emission-free bus requires about 20 kilograms of hydrogen per day.
