Ceres Power Holdings has agreements in place with Linde Engineering and Robert Bosch GmbH to begin working together to evaluate the efficiency, cost, and usability of its SOEC technology.

The businesses intend to set up a one megawatt SOEC system demonstration that will last for two years beginning in 2024 at a Bosch facility in Stuttgart, Germany. Its purpose is to demonstrate how the technology offers a highly effective route to affordable green hydrogen, which is crucial in industrial areas that are more difficult to decarbonize.

Ceres has pledged to invest £100 million in the growth of its SOEC technology. The technology’s first 100kW electrolyser module is presently undergoing testing, and preliminary findings give confidence that it can deliver green hydrogen at a rate of about 40kWh/kg, which is about 25% more effectively than competing lower temperature systems.

The solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) technology of Ceres, which shares the same material sets, manufacturing procedure, machinery, and stack design as Bosch, is the foundation of the SOEC program. The demonstration serves as a crucial system-level validation of SOEC, providing a viable foundation for prospective commercialization.
