Chevron, through its GM of Hydrogen Products, Matias Saettone, emphasizes the indispensable role of hydrogen in achieving low carbon and ultimately, zero carbon emissions.
At the Hydrogen North America 2023 conference in Houston, Saettone underscored the significance of collaboration, stating that without broad cooperation, a hydrogen-powered economy is unattainable.
Brett Perlman, CEO of the Center for Houston’s Future, has dedicated five years to rallying industry and community stakeholders to construct a robust hydrogen ecosystem, particularly in the Gulf Coast region. Matias Saettone, aligning with this vision, sees hydrogen as a “critical component” in the journey toward low carbon. Saettone contends that achieving zero carbon is impossible without the pivotal role of hydrogen in the energy landscape.
Saettone delves into Chevron’s strategic collaborations, notably highlighting ACES Delta, an advanced hydrogen production, storage, and utilization project in partnership with Mitsubishi Power. This initiative is a crucial step in advancing lower carbon intensity solutions, particularly in Utah. Chevron’s partnerships extend beyond the supply side, encompassing the demand side in sectors like transportation, power generation, and industry.
Addressing social and community considerations, Perlman emphasizes the importance of ensuring that communities benefit from the progress toward net-zero goals. Saettone reinforces the idea of a movement for all, where the development of communities plays a critical role. Both Perlman and Saettone stress the pivotal role of federal and state governments in facilitating community collaboration through enabling policies that spur market growth.
Saettone advocates for a global perspective in collaboration, emphasizing the need for governments worldwide to work together in creating standards that are universally applicable. He emphasizes the importance of regulators focusing on the intensity of molecules rather than their colors, stressing the need for an open, transparent, and interactive dialogue to understand the unique needs of different sectors.
