CLARA Energy congratulates the governments of New South Wales, Victoria, and Queensland on their Hydrogen Highway announcement.
Tarcutta, in the state of New South Wales, is home to one of the world’s largest green hydrogen production facilities. Between Sydney and Melbourne, Tarcutta serves as a compass point. Because of its proximity to the Hume Highway and the 4,000 heavy-haul trucks that pass through its gate each day, CLARA Energy’s project is an Australian first mover in green hydrogen at scale and is in line with the government’s Hydrogen Highways strategy.
The heavy-haul transportation sector must be decarbonized by using green hydrogen. During the first stage of the project, CLARA Energy expects to produce about 25,000 kg of green hydrogen per day, with two more stages to be added later. The process makes it possible to produce and sell ‘green hydrogen’ for transportation using a renewable energy source.
Hydrogen and Oxygen will be extracted from water by CLARA Energy using solar PV and electrolysers. Construction is expected to begin in the second half of 2024, with operations set to begin in the second half of 2025.
