Regionalverkehr Köln GmbH (RVK), the public transportation operator in Cologne, has chosen Solaris as the supplier of hydrogen-powered buses once again.
The order includes nine Urbino 12 and eleven articulated Urbino 18 hydrogen buses. Upon the completion of this order, Cologne’s hydrogen fleet will include 84 Solaris buses.
The city already houses 46 Solaris hydrogen buses, with another 18 buses in production and delivery. With the new order of 20 additional hydrogen buses, the delivery of which is planned for the first half of 2025, Cologne demonstrates its continued investment in hydrogen-based public transportation.
The Urbino 12 and Urbino 18 hydrogen buses are fitted with the latest 70 kW and 100 kW fuel cells respectively. These vehicles have a guaranteed range of 350 km, irrespective of atmospheric and topographic conditions. The buses are also equipped with high-efficiency air conditioning systems, advanced monitoring, passenger information systems and driver assistance systems. These include the eSConnect fleet monitoring and remote management system, and the MobilEye Shield+ system, which identifies objects close to the bus.
Solaris is recognized for its experience in the manufacturing and supply of hydrogen buses, with a 44.5% market share in the hydrogen segment in 2023. The company’s hydrogen buses are operating in 24 cities in 10 European countries. With more than 500 vehicles in its order portfolio for the years 2024 to 2026, more vehicles will gradually be delivered to customers.
