The United Kingdom’s battery energy storage system (BESS) sector continues to gain momentum with Constantine Energy Storage and Habitat Energy joining forces to optimize three pivotal BESS projects in the nation.
With a combined capacity of 171 MW/462 MWh, these projects represent a significant addition to the UK’s energy landscape. The projects in question, located at Ocker Hill near Birmingham, Whitegate near Manchester, and Monk Fryston near Leeds, each boast a capacity of 57 MW with a 2.7-hour energy storage potential. Set to be operational by summer 2025, Habitat Energy will play a crucial role in asset onboarding and system control across the sites.
This collaboration is part of a broader expansion within the UK’s BESS industry, which recently saw Statera Energy acquiring a 680 MW project at the Trafford Low Carbon Energy Park, slated for 2026 completion.
Industry experts pinpoint asset management and optimizing market participation as critical components of successful BESS deployment. Constantine and Habitat’s partnership is notable not merely for its capacity but its strategic focus on these optimization processes. By leveraging expertise in energy trading and market dynamics, the partnership aims to enhance the financial viability and operational efficiency of these storage projects.
