Cummins Inc., through its subsidiary Hydrogenics Europe N.V., has secured a contract to supply a 2.5 megawatt (MW) electrolyser to Hysetco, a hydrogen mobility startup backed by Total Energies, Air Liquide, Toyota, and Kouros.

The electrolyser will enable local hydrogen production in Paris, France, enabling Hysetco to pursue its ambitious aim of developing and operating the world’s first large-scale hydrogen mobility platform that integrates hydrogen production, delivery, and usage.

By 2024, the Hysetco project will strive to build the world’s largest hydrogen taxi fleet, fueled by 12 huge hydrogen filling stations. The effort intends to expedite the transition to zero-emissions on-demand transportation and other professional mobility modes, such as commercial cars, buses, and heavy cargo trucks. This project is critical in achieving carbon neutrality by decarbonizing transportation and mobility.

“Thanks to Cummins’ reputation in the market and their strong experience in hydrogen, this makes them a suitable partner for our project,” said Loic Voisin CEO of Hysetco “We are happy to partner up with them and share the same drive of moving towards zero carbon emissions”

Cummins’ electrolyser system will utilize a 2.5 megawatt (MW) HyLYZER®-500 proton exchange membrane (PEM) electrolyser capable of producing up to 380 tons of hydrogen per year. Hysetco will power the electrolyzer with renewable energy, ensuring that the hydrogen is environmentally friendly and the production process is fully carbon neutral.

“Accelerating decarbonization through partnerships with companies like Hysetco is key to Cummins’ Destination Zero strategy,” said Piet Berens, Cummins Managing Director – Electrolysers. “We are committed to establishing green hydrogen as a viable alternative energy vector and furthering the green hydrogen economy globally. This exciting project is an innovative example of hydrogen’s potential to decarbonize transportation and mobility at scale, and we are proud to be a part of it.”
