Dentons, a prominent global law firm, has announced its pivotal role in the Hydrogen Demand Initiative (H2DI) coalition, a pioneering effort led by the Energy Futures Initiative Foundation (EFIF) in collaboration with S&P Global, Intercontinental Exchange (ICE), and the MIT Energy Initiative (MITEI).

This coalition has been selected by the Department of Energy (DOE) to spearhead a new initiative aimed at bolstering demand for clean hydrogen in conjunction with DOE-funded Regional Clean Hydrogen Hubs.

Clinton Vince, Chair of Dentons US Energy Practice, and Co-Chair of Dentons Global Transportation and Infrastructure Sector Group, expressed Dentons’ deep honor in supporting Dr. Ernest Moniz, CEO of EFIF, and the groundbreaking Hydrogen Demand Initiative. The initiative stands as a critical component of DOE’s national strategy, focusing on designing and developing realistic demand-side hydrogen markets across the United States.

The H2DI coalition is at the forefront of crafting a high-impact hydrogen demand-side program that efficiently mobilizes private investment. This initiative aims to support the commercial deployment of clean hydrogen facilitated by the seven DOE-funded regional clean hydrogen hubs and their surrounding regions. The approach integrates various elements, including transparent pricing, open infrastructure access, and measurable emission reductions.

Emma Hand, Co-chair of Dentons Global Energy practice, highlighted Dentons’ privilege in collaborating with distinguished colleagues in the H2DI coalition. The legal team, boasting national and international acclaim in the energy sector, is well-positioned to offer regulatory, transactional, environmental, and project development counsel for hydrogen initiatives.

Sonia Martin, CEO of Dentons US, expressed pride in being chosen to work alongside energy innovators and industry leaders in shaping the future of the energy economy. Dentons, recognized as “Energy Law Firm of the Year” and the “Most Dynamic Energy Practice,” brings its extensive capabilities to the table. The firm’s integrated Energy team collaborates seamlessly with other practice groups, enabling comprehensive legal support across various domains, including regulatory compliance, project development, finance, and environmental considerations.

This groundbreaking collaboration positions Dentons as a key player in driving the transition to a sustainable and hydrogen-powered energy landscape. The esteemed law firm’s acceptance of this project underscores its commitment to contributing legal expertise to transformative initiatives that shape the future of the energy sector.
