Thanks to the Dutch SWiM grant, ten new hydrogen trucks will be developed and deployed over the next three years.
The initiative involves the Europa trucks, which are being designed by Delft-based zepp.solutions and will be realized through five consortia, including H2 infrastructure providers TEAL, Green Planet Pesse, and Fountain Fuel.
The Europa trucks are based on the Mercedes Actros diesel model and are specifically designed for long-distance transport. These hydrogen trucks can operate similarly to their diesel counterparts, boasting a range of over 700 km as a 50-ton combination. They are equipped with a sleeper cab and can tow 45-foot containers on standard ISO trailers.
The Dutch SWiM grant aims to address the “chicken and egg problem” in the hydrogen sector by supporting the simultaneous development of vehicles and refueling stations. In 2024, the scheme had an available budget of €29 million, which has been increased to €40 million for 2025 by the Dutch Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management.
FThe initiative presents significant opportunities for transporters and logistics companies aiming to enhance fleet sustainability.
