easyJet and Rolls-Royce have announced a partnership to conduct research into industry-wide sustainability solutions for commercial aircraft.
The study, which will begin in January 2022 and last up to two years, will look into alternative energy and power solutions, such as low carbon and zero-emission technologies, and their application for aircraft. The research will look at broader aspects of the aviation energy and operational ecosystem, such as fuel production, transportation, storage, and handling.
The airline and a world-leading engine manufacturer are collaborating to advance knowledge of these topics in relation to both electrical and hydrogen-based power systems.
Both companies intend to enlist the help of a diverse range of experts, including energy providers, airports, and aviation safety regulators, to gain a better understanding of the situation.
