TGS, a Vietnamese renewable energy project development and services firm, has chosen ECONNECT Energy, a Norwegian technology firm, to export green ammonia from Tra Vinh Plant.
ECONNECT Energy will first conduct a pre-FEED study before bidding on an EPC contract to fabricate and install a jettyless IQuay to transport green ammonia from the onshore plant to ammonia storage vessels for export. In 2017, ECONNECT Energy pioneered the first “jettyless” LNG transfer to an onshore terminal in the world, and the company continues to provide jettyless marine-based technology for a variety of energy transfer and bunkering applications.
Green hydrogen and ammonia production in Tra Vinh
TGS is building a green hydrogen and green ammonia production plant in Tra Vinh, which will begin operations in 2024, in an important step toward bringing climate-friendly industrial development to Southern Vietnam.
Initially, the ammonia export project will use green credit from the grid to produce 575 mtpd of “liquid sunshine” green ammonia for export, with a 240MW installed capacity. TGS has entered into agreements with German electrolyser manufacturer Thyssen Krupp, among others, to start the Tra Vinh project.
Following the investment decision and offtake contracts for the Tra Vinh plant in 2021, TGS has awarded ECONNECT Energy the marine export scope to use a proprietary jettyless solution to transfer ammonia from the production plant to offshore storage vessels via the ECONNECT IQuay platform.
