EDP has completed the environmental process for its renewable hydrogen project in Soto de Ribera, named GH2 Soto.
The authorization was granted by the Consejería de Transición Ecológica, Industria y Desarrollo Económico of the Principality of Asturias.
The environmental green light permits EDP to progress in developing the first 5 MW of electrolysis capacity at the site. This venture involves an investment exceeding 20 million euros and aims to produce 600 tons of renewable hydrogen annually. The project is set to cut approximately 6,000 tons of CO2 emissions per year.
The project is supported by 6 million euros in funding from the IDAE as part of the PERTE program for renewable energies and hydrogen storage. This backing highlights the project’s significance as part of the first call for Pioneer Projects.
EDP envisions transforming Soto de Ribera into a ‘green hub’ focused on renewable energies, energy storage, system flexibility, and hydrogen production. This effort in Soto de Ribera adds to EDP’s broader renewable hydrogen projects in Aboño and Los Barrios, positioning EDP at the forefront of renewable hydrogen development in Europe.
