Elogen and Sarralle have agreed to work together on the engineering, production, delivery, and commissioning of green hydrogen generating equipment for the steel sector.

Elogen and Sarralle have agreed to work together on developing, manufacturing, supplying, and commissioning green hydrogen generating equipment for the steel sector. Both firms will collaborate on green hydrogen generating equipment design and manufacturing, as well as integrating containerized and electrolysis plant solutions into the industry.

The partnership includes the creation of green hydrogen pilot projects as a principal fuel source for the steel sector, as well as the installation of electrolysis facilities on industrial sites. The steel industry, which accounts for around 9% of global CO2 emissions, is taking steps to reduce carbon emissions in line with the European Union’s goal of achieving a carbon-free economy by 2050.

The steel industry’s decarbonization will necessitate considerable technical advancements, with green hydrogen playing a crucial part. Furthermore, customers are expecting products with a reduced carbon footprint, investors are showing an increased interest in a sustainable sector, and CO2 emission restrictions are growing harsher. Green hydrogen-based steel is predicted to become more cost-competitive as renewable energy costs decline and electrolyzer technology improves.

“With this partnership agreement, Elogen moves its technical solutions a step closer to their integration in energy-intensive businesses,” says Jean-Baptiste Choimet, Elogen’s Managing Director. Elogen solutions will have access to key global steel industry players thanks to Sarralle. We want to incorporate our technology into future initiatives to assist in the decarbonization of this industry.”

“Sarralle with international experience in the Steel, Energy, and Environment sectors, we consider Elogen to be the ideal strategic partner to extend our hydrogen technology solutions, and provide the steel industry with a complete solution for green hydrogen, to achieve their decarbonization goals,” says Roberto Arroniz, Managing Director of Sarralle E&E. These options range from hydrogen production through steel mill integration to hydrogen combustion equipment.”
