Enagas has successfully secured 75.8 million euros from the European Union to advance the development of Spain’s Hydrogen Backbone Network and the H2Med project.

The Spanish Hydrogen Backbone Network, part of a broader European strategy, aims to establish a robust hydrogen distribution system across the country. This network is vital for Spain’s transition to renewable energy sources and reducing reliance on fossil fuels.

The H2Med project is a pivotal component of the Spanish plan. It focuses on creating an interconnected hydrogen market in the Mediterranean region, potentially positioning Spain as a leader in hydrogen energy production and distribution. This project aligns with the European Union’s goals of enhancing energy security and fostering green energy solutions.

Puertollano is set to play an essential role in this network. With its existing energy infrastructure and strategic location, it is poised to become a hub for hydrogen production and distribution. Investments in Puertollano’s infrastructure are expected to create jobs, boost local economy, and cement its role in the hydrogen value chain.

The 75.8 million euros from the EU demonstrate confidence in Enagás and Spain’s hydrogen projects. This funding will accelerate the development of necessary infrastructure, facilitating a faster transition to a cleaner energy economy. The support underscores Europe’s commitment to achieving climate goals and energy independence.
