Enel Brasil has signed a memorandum of understanding with the government of Ceará to carry out feasibility studies to develop green hydrogen production projects in the state, the company said in a statement.
The initiative is part of the efforts to reduce carbon emissions of Enel Green Power, the renewable generation arm of the Enel group in the country. According to the company, the goal is to join efforts to analyze the assumptions that influence the feasibility of green hydrogen production projects.
In the short term, the focus of the studies will be on the development of a green hydrogen production plant in the state of Ceará, through a process of water electrolysis using renewable energy. Electrolysis is the process used to manufacture hydrogen.
According to the company, based on the results of the feasibility study stage, there will be the definition of potential projects, investments, and deadlines for execution.
“Ceará has strong potential for wind and solar generation and we have studies in progress for future project development. We want to do the same with green hydrogen, working together with our partners and technology suppliers, following our purpose of open innovation, whose collaborative environment can contribute to find competitive solutions faster,” said, in a statement, the responsible for business development of Enel Green Power in Brazil, Jean Philippe Bellavia.
The partnership will last at least five years and may be extended.
