ESA Solar Energy is launching a sales process for a portfolio of 36 early-stage battery energy storage system (BESS) projects situated in the North Midwest Independent System Operator (MISO) region.

This expansive portfolio, spanning states like Michigan, Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Iowa, has the potential to deliver up to 6 gigawatts (GW) of storage capacity, marking a significant contribution to the energy transition.

ESA Solar has been actively involved in the MISO region since 2017, focusing on renewable energy projects. The growth in energy demand, the retirement of thermal power sources, and the increasing adoption of renewable energy are crucial factors contributing to rising energy price volatility and a surge in demand for energy storage in the region. This strategic foresight by ESA positions the company to capitalize on these trends with regulatory support for energy storage in certain MISO states.

The BESS projects have been carefully selected based on their commercial feasibility and attractiveness to future stakeholders. ESA Solar supports these projects with services related to interconnection, environmental permits, and engineering, giving developer and independent power producer (IPP) buyers a head-start in the development process. The portfolio is a product of meticulous diligence, ensuring that buyers benefit from a well-prepared foundation.

Ascend Analytics, a leader in energy market intelligence, is facilitating this sales process through its AEX Asset Sales platform. This tool ensures a streamlined and objective purchasing experience for interested parties, leveraging Ascend’s comprehensive suit of market insights and risk mitigation products. Ascend’s involvement highlights ESA Solar’s credible track record as an early initiator in MISO’s energy landscape, providing buyers a strategic advantage through these assets.
