President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen stated following the two-day European Council meeting that the current European gas infrastructure may be utilized for hydrogen transmission in the future.
She pointed out that Europe accounts for 75% of pipeline gas commerce, placing the EU in a strong bargaining position ahead of a decision on future joint discussions on European gas supply. Von der Leyen urged that we use our market weight.
The European Commission’s president indicated that the commission will propose solutions to decouple gas and electricity pricing in May.
Von der Leyen stated that the EU is concentrating on enforcing the sanctions already imposed on Russia as a result of the conflict in Ukraine, as well as closing the gaps that allow the restrictive measures to be circumvented. She stated that the US will enhance assistance for Ukraine, impose sanctions, and decrease reliance on Russian fossil fuels.
The EU as a whole supports Ukraine, and the democratic world is opposed to (Russian President Vladimir) Putin’s war, which he did not expect. Sanctions bite and reduce the risk of conflict, according to Von der Layen.
The Russian army’s savagery has no mercy towards children, women, or the elderly. According to the EC president, ten million Ukrainians have been uprooted or are seeking shelter abroad.
