Fortescue Future Industries (FFI) has obtained exclusive land rights to host up to 7.6GW of large-scale wind and solar that would generate green hydrogen in Egypt.
FFI claims that at the UN-sponsored COP27 climate discussions, which are simultaneously taking place in Egypt, it inked a significant Framework Agreement with the government of the nation.
Egypt has attempted to use the COP27 negotiations, which are set to culminate this weekend, as a springboard for its plans to develop green hydrogen and to make use of its substantial wind and solar resources in order to meet 42% of its energy demands from renewable sources by 2035.
The FFI announcement comes on the heels of news earlier this week that it was considering proposals for a mammoth 10GW renewables hub in Queensland’s north, a multi-gigawatt Clarke Creek renewables hub further south, and 5.2GW of wind and solar in Western Australia’s Pilbara region.
