Fraunhofer-Institut für Windenergiesysteme (IWES) and Gasgrid Finland Oy have each issued significant tenders related to the development and expansion of hydrogen infrastructure.
Fraunhofer IWES is requesting tenders for the supply of a pressure vessel as part of a new low-pressure hydrogen storage facility, while Gasgrid Finland is seeking suppliers for a technical alignment study for the Nordic-Baltic Hydrogen Corridor initiative. Both tenders were published on March 27, 2025, with submission deadlines set for April 28, 2025, and April 14, 2025, respectively. These projects underscore the importance of advancing hydrogen technologies and infrastructure in the European energy sector.
Fraunhofer IWES is focusing on expanding its Hydrogen Lab in Bremerhaven by adding a third low-pressure hydrogen storage tank. The responsibility of the successful supplier will encompass manufacturing, transporting, and installing a pressure vessel that meets precise specifications to enhance the hydrogen research capabilities at the lab.
Gasgrid Finland is leading the procurement for the Nordic-Baltic Hydrogen Corridor, which aims to establish a multinational hydrogen pipeline connecting several European countries. This tender seeks one or two suppliers to undertake a comprehensive cross-border technical alignment study. The study’s objectives include defining design values for the pipeline, understanding compression needs, ensuring system safety, regulatory compliance, and supporting national engineering efforts.
The technical requirements for Fraunhofer IWES involve ensuring that the hydrogen pressure vessel has a minimum capacity of 90 m³ and includes both manufacturing and installation tasks. For Gasgrid Finland, the alignment study involves a detailed technical assessment that supports the corridor’s design and regulatory framework.
