Fuel Supply System for Liquefied Hydrogen

The recent patent by Kawasaki Jukogyo Kabushiki Kaisha introduces an advanced fuel supply system designed for liquefied hydrogen.

The patented fuel supply system includes several critical components that work together to enhance the efficiency of liquefied hydrogen usage. Central to this system is a storage tank specifically designed for liquefied hydrogen. Connected to this tank is a fuel supply line which is equipped with an initial pump, a stirring device, and a secondary pump.

The dual-pump mechanism in this system plays a vital role in the effective management of hydrogen. The first pump facilitates the movement of liquid hydrogen from the storage tank, while the second pump increases the pressure of this hydrogen to reach or surpass a critical pressure threshold. This pressure adjustment is crucial for optimizing the fuel supply to the end-user applications.

A notable feature of this system is its integrated stirring device, which enhances the condensation process of hydrogen gas. After the liquefied hydrogen pressure is elevated, part of this fuel is diverted through a reflux line, which features a pressure reducing valve. The decompressed hydrogen gas generated in this process is then mixed with the moving liquefied hydrogen in the supply line by the stirring device. This mixture effectively condenses the hydrogen gas back into its liquid form, reducing wastage and improving overall system efficiency.

The reflux line serves as a crucial part of this patent’s ingenuity. By branching off the main fuel supply line downstream of the second pump, it allows for a strategic lowering of pressure, facilitating the gas condensation process. This ensures that hydrogen waste is minimized and the fuel supply system operates at peak efficiency.
