The German-Brazilian Alliance for Green Hydrogen is launching an innovation program for startups, non-profit institutions and entrepreneurs that seek to leverage the development of green hydrogen in Brazil.
The first call for applications for the program is open until April 22. The project should have two more editions between the second half of 2022 and the first half of 2023.
The proposals, which should be submitted on the Alliance Brazil-Germany website, should cover logistics solutions, production, and application of the product in industry, with technical support and financial resources in certain categories.
According to the Ministry of Mines and Energy, Brazil today has 83% of its electricity matrix originating from renewable sources, which is fundamental for the production of green hydrogen, which combines the electrolysis of water with this type of source.
One of the main challenges for its use is the cost of production, which can reach three times the cost of fossil fuels, according to the Alliance.
The project has different approaches. In the initiatives aimed at non-profit institutions, the program will financially support research, development, and innovation projects, also promising technical support.
Twelve entities will be benefited and researchers linked to these associations with at least two years of experience in the sectors of innovation and/or green hydrogen can participate.
In the category of startups, the program intends to select 24 companies with the goal of developing pilot projects related to green hydrogen. To compete for the program, the candidates must present revenues of up to R$ 16 million and will receive support to carry out the pilot.
The program also foresees a category for entrepreneurs that have ideas and business models still under construction for the green hydrogen chain, which will have support for the development of business models.
The project is carried out by the Brazil-Germany Alliance for Green Hydrogen, created in 2020 by the Brazil-Germany Chambers of Commerce and Industry of São Paulo and Rio with the objective of establishing renewable energy businesses between the two countries.
It is supported by the German-Brazilian Cooperation, represented by the Ministry of Mines and Energy and Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (German Society for International Cooperation), a German government company that works with sustainable development.
