On January 20, 2025, Wasserstoff Lichtenau GmbH & Co. KG announced a tender titled “Elektrolyseur ‘Schlafender Riese'” for the construction of a hydrogen production facility with a scale of 9-12 MW in Lichtenau, Germany.

Submissions for participation are due by February 19, 2025. This project aims to advance hydrogen technology and infrastructure, contributing significantly to the renewable energy sector and the transition towards sustainable energy solutions.

The primary objective of this tender is to procure a turnkey hydrogen generation plant, including all necessary ancillary systems such as water treatment, cooling technology, compression, storage, safety, and supply and disposal systems. This initiative is pivotal as it supports the growing need for clean energy, specifically focusing on hydrogen, which is seen as a crucial component in reducing carbon emissions across industries.

The tender requires potential contractors to manage the comprehensive aspects of the plant setup. Besides constructing the core facility, bidders must also provide for an electrolyte solution with all required peripheral equipment. Technical requirements emphasize the integration of electric and control systems, crucial for the plant’s operation and safety.

The technical aspects include the use of gas generators and compressors, along with cooling and ventilation equipment. These components are essential as they ensure the safe and efficient production and handling of hydrogen. The project will be partially funded by EU sources, reflecting its strategic importance within the EU’s energy agenda.
