Greenko ZeroC (GZC) and John Cockerill have agreed to collaborate on the production of green hydrogen electrolyzers in the Indian subcontinent.

The two companies will construct a hydrogen electrolyzer Gigafactory with a capacity of two gigatonnes, which will replace 8% of India’s LNG imports.

GZC and John Cockerill will pool their resources to work together on all aspects of market development for green hydrogen electrolysers, which convert clean energy into carbon-free hydrogen. John Cockerill’s pressurized alkaline technology is well suited to “large scale” hydrogen applications and, when combined with Greenko’s low cost RE-RTC (round the clock) solutions, will enable the lowest Levelized Cost of Hydrogen (LCOH) required for the implementation of a large H2 ecosystem on the Indian subcontinent. The Gigafactory will include the entire manufacturing electrolyser value chain, including cutting-edge nickel coating, and will produce electrolysers capable of delivering H2 at 30 bars at the outlet with the highest purity.

This collaboration will enable the delivery of electrolysers at scale in India within the next few years, facilitating the production of the lowest cost green hydrogen and, as a result, the faster adoption of a green molecule-related ecosystem in the country. These advancements in the H2 industry will benefit large local industries (such as refineries, fertilizer plants, and steel), the implementation of a large-scale energy ecosystem centered on renewable energies (PV, wind, and hydro), and the development of H2 mobility in India.
