The Greenko firm, which is constructing the largest pumped hydro storage facility in the world—1,680 MW—near Kurnool, Andhra Pradesh, for “upwards of a billion dollars,” aims to construct three other such facilities over the course of the following three years.

Two of these will be approximately the same size, while the third will be approximately 1.5 times as large. These will have a 50 GWhr storage capacity when combined.

By December of this year, the Kurnool plant should be operational. Greenko’s green hydrogen and green ammonia complex, which is being built in the port city of Kakinada and will export green ammonia, will receive a third of the power.

The Chief Operating Officer of Greenko ZeroC Pvt Ltd, Gautam Reddy, stated to the business line during the India Energy Week, which was held in Bengaluru last week, that a total of $6 billion will be invested by Greenko into this industry.

B C Tripathi, a Senior Advisor at Greenko, stated that the company would produce 3 million tons of green hydrogen annually at the same event.

First cargo by December 2025
